Surgeon Performs First Ankle Replacement in

Knee and hip
replacements are commonplace today, but now, ankle replacements are helping more people
solve the pain of ankle arthritis. While ankle replacement joints have been FDA-approved for
the past four years, they weren’t always considered the best design by orthopedic
surgeons at Danbury Hospital. The early prostheses were thought to limit range of motion in the foot.
Neurosurgeon First in Fairfield
County 05/01/2008 The popularity and effectiveness of
knee and hip replacements have given way to a new type of artificial
prosthesis that is helping people with arthritis of the back and the
resulting back, neck and arm pain. A cervical disc replacement removes the section of
the spine affected by arthritis and replaces it with an artificial disc made
of stainless steel, according to Scott Sanderson, M.D., Department of Surgery, Section of Neurosurgery at Danbury Hospital.
